During the past few weeks I took some pictures around Auburn. So, lets have a look.
The first picture hear is outside of town on the west side of Auburn, PA. Nearly right across from where the old Wright’s knitwear plant used to be.
This is the Matz residence which is located next to Naftzinger’s junkyard in Auburn, PA.
The first above is a picture of Market Street. This is the main street in Auburn, Pennsylvania. Market Street also runs east and west and is part of State Route 895. This picture was taken going east towards Clauser’s mini-market.
What and Where is Auburn, Pennsylvania?
Auburn, Pennsylvania can be categorized as a small town in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. The nearest city would be Pottsville, Pennsylvania, which is also the county seat for Schuylkill County.
Speaking demographically, Auburn would be located roughly 30 minutes north of Reading, Pa., which is the largest city close to it. Auburn also has a state route, PA Router 895 which runs through the center of town. The closest Interstates would be Interstate 78 which is about 6 miles south of the intersection of Route 61 and Route 895.
Interstate 81 is also fairly close and would be roughly 15 to 20 minutes away.
Auburn is a small town with a small town feeling community. It is fair to say that just about everyone knows everyone. While the population is roughly around 3,000, some people included in the population live in a community called Lake Wynonah. The other half of Lake Wynonah belong to the town of Schuylkill Haven. The borough itself would have a population of around 900. Some families have lived in this small town for three or four generations.
Some of the employers in the Auburn area would include Craftex Mills, Reneer Films Corp., Omnova Foundry, Precisionaire, and a plastic decking company which is now housed in the former Wright’s knitwear building.
In the past, more employers were located in Auburn including Wright’s knitwear, The Hubler Shoe Factory, and the Brickyard.
Auburn also had a trainstation in the borough that many residents used when it was functioning to visit Pottsville and the many stores that were located in Pottsville’s inner city from the 1940′s to the 1970′s.
Today, many new homes are being built on former farmland and prices for any real estate are moderately higher than other communities in Schuylkill County.
